The Bono Regional Office of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) facilitated utility billing adjustments totalling GHS 47,057.78 for consumers during the third quarter of 2026. These adjustments addressed billing concerns for residents in the Bono Region. The interventions involved both the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) and Ghana Water Limited (GWL).

This significant financial adjustment reflects PURC's ongoing commitment to consumer protection. Of the total amount, GHS 5,132.27 was attributed to NEDCo, while GHS 41,925.51 related to GWL. These actions aim to ensure that utility providers deliver efficient and reliable services while maintaining fair billing practices for all customers.

The utility sector in Ghana frequently faces challenges with billing accuracy and service delivery, impacting household budgets and business operations. PURC's intervention in the Bono Region highlights its crucial role in mediating disputes and enforcing regulatory standards. Such adjustments are vital for maintaining public trust in essential service providers and ensuring economic stability for consumers.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission stated these efforts are part of its mandate to protect consumers and resolve disputes between customers and utility companies. They also ensure legitimate revenue recovery for utility providers. This dual approach balances consumer rights with the financial health of service companies like NEDCo and GWL.

Beyond billing adjustments, PURC also reported significant improvements to the electricity distribution network in the Bono Region. Twenty-three transformers were upgraded across various communities. These upgrades collectively increased transformer capacity, improving electricity supply for 4,178 customers. For example, the Kotokrom Cemetery Road Extension transformer increased from 50KVA to 100KVA, serving 163 customers. The Watchman transformer also increased from 100KVA to 200KVA, benefiting 326 customers. These infrastructure enhancements are critical for accommodating growing electricity demand and reducing pressure on existing systems. Furthermore, 118 electricity poles were replaced, comprising 108 low-voltage (LV) poles and 10 high-tension (HT) poles. This replacement improves the safety, stability, and resilience of the electricity distribution network. It also minimises service disruptions caused by deteriorating infrastructure. These combined efforts are expected to enhance the reliability of utility services across the region, supporting local economic activities and improving living standards. The continued engagement between PURC and utility providers on billing, revenue recovery, and infrastructure investments will be crucial for sustained improvements in service delivery.
