The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has spent more than GHS 3 million in the first quarter of 2026. This money is for improving the dependability of electricity supply. These upgrades will benefit 40 communities. They are located across six districts within the Accra West Region.

This spending is part of ECG’s continuous work. It aims to fix problems with power supply. It also seeks to cut down on power outages. This will make things better for customers. ECG General Manager for Accra West, Sariel Etwire, spoke at a meeting. She said ECG is dedicated to giving quality electricity. It must be reliable and safe. This helps boost economic growth and development.

Sariel Etwire pointed out major reasons for transformer problems. Illegal connections are one cause. Vegetation growing too close to lines is another. Vandalism also harms equipment. These issues lead to transformers being overloaded. ECG risks losing these transformers due to burnouts. Customers then suffer from low voltage. This often happens during busy periods.

Ms. Etwire asked citizens and community leaders to be watchful. They should report people tampering with ECG equipment. Protecting the power network is key. It helps improve how ECG provides service. It reduces disruptions for everyone. She also advised people to report fallen power lines. This should be done immediately, especially after rain. It prevents accidents and allows quick repairs.

Communities receiving these upgrades include Dunyo Township and Amasaman China Mall. Other areas like Odumase Junction and Anyaa Market Down also benefited. ECG is doing a big project. It is installing and upgrading many transformers. This is happening across its operating areas. The goal is to solve overloading issues. It will make power more reliable for people.

The Accra West Region covers eight areas. These include Ablekuma, Achimota, and Amasaman. Representatives from the areas that received upgrades thanked ECG. They promised to help protect ECG's equipment. They will work against vandalism and illegal power taps.
