Energy Minister John Jinapor has assured Ghanaians that the nation’s energy supply is currently stable. He made this statement despite recent concerns over power reliability and infrastructure challenges. These worries emerged partly from an incident at the Akosombo dam substation.

Speaking during a tour in the Eastern Region, Minister Jinapor praised staff from the Volta River Authority (VRA) and the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo). He highlighted their crucial work in maintaining and restoring electricity across the country. The Minister specifically thanked them for their dedication to this vital service.

The government is actively working to strengthen the power distribution network. This includes a significant investment in new equipment. Over 2,500 new transformers are being installed nationwide. These are entirely new units, procured under the current administration. They aim to fix and improve the electricity system significantly.

Minister Jinapor emphasized that these transformers are not inherited from previous governments. They represent new procurement to enhance reliability. The government is committed to continuous improvement in the energy sector. This includes expanding capacity to meet growing electricity demand.

Assurance of stability comes as Ghana navigates ongoing economic reforms. The energy sector's performance is critical for industrial growth and household confidence. Previous infrastructure challenges have sometimes led to public frustration. The ongoing transformer installations signal a direct response to these issues. Data from the Ghana Statistical Service shows consistent growth in electricity demand over the past decade.

"On behalf of the President and people of Ghana, let me say a big thank you to the staff of VRA and GRIDCo for the job you have done. You deserve commendation,” Minister Jinapor stated. He further added, “Let me assure the people of Ghana that your energy situation is stable.”

These efforts aim to prevent future power outages. They also aim to improve the quality of service for all Ghanaians. The successful implementation of these upgrades will be closely watched. It directly impacts business operations and daily life. Continued investment in infrastructure is key to sustained economic activity.
