Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has appointed Frank Asirifi Otchere as its new Chief Executive. The company also confirmed two deputy executives who will support his leadership. These significant appointments took effect on May 8, 2026.

The Board of GRIDCo announced these changes in a circular signed by Board Chairlady Kuukua Maurice Ankrah. Ing. Samuel Nkansah has been confirmed as Deputy Chief Executive for Finance and Resources. Ing. Samed Abdul Ibrahim, currently heading the Project Implementation Unit, is now the Acting Deputy Chief Executive for Engineering and Operations. The Board has requested staff to give full cooperation to the new leadership.

These appointments occur at a critical juncture for Ghana's power infrastructure. GRIDCo has been actively working to ensure stable electricity supply across the country. This effort follows a recent fire incident at the Akosombo switchyard control room. That incident temporarily disrupted electricity generation and transmission operations. GRIDCo plays a vital role in transmitting electricity from power producers to distributors nationwide. Its efficient operation is crucial for economic activity and daily life in Ghana.

The circular noted the appointments were made following careful consideration. The Board expressed confidence in the appointees' ability to steer GRIDCo. Electricity transmission is a foundational element of any modern economy. GRIDCo is responsible for managing a large network of high-voltage power lines. These lines carry electricity from power generation plants to the various distribution companies that supply homes and businesses. Any disruption to this system can have widespread economic consequences, affecting industries and households alike.

The implications of this leadership change are substantial. New executives will face immediate challenges in overcoming the lingering effects of past disruptions. They must also navigate ongoing efforts to upgrade and maintain the national transmission grid. Investors and energy sector stakeholders will closely monitor GRIDCo's performance. Maintaining a reliable power supply is essential for attracting foreign investment and supporting domestic industries. The effectiveness of these new leaders will be key to ensuring grid stability and supporting Ghana's economic growth agenda.
