The Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation and Prevention Bureau (AIB Ghana) released its report on the fatal microlight aircraft crash in Tema. The crash occurred on March 16, resulting in the loss of two lives. The investigation aimed to determine the exact cause of the accident.
Commissioner John Mmeb Kunyan Wumborti stated the Bureau conducted extensive work to uncover the facts. Investigators examined all aspects of the incident thoroughly. The report aims to provide factual information gathered during the diligent examination process. This information will help the public understand the events.
This incident raises questions about aviation safety standards in Ghana. The country relies on air transport for various purposes, including business and tourism. Previous aviation incidents, though less severe, have highlighted the need for robust safety protocols. AIB Ghana's role is crucial in ensuring public confidence in the sector. The Bureau's work is vital for the safe operation of aircraft across the nation.
Commissioner Wumborti assured the public that the findings are based on analyzed factual information. "We have done diligent work," he stated. "We have gone into all lengths to find out what really happened." He added, "We are going to bring out the factual information that we gathered." The Bureau also plans to present recommendations to improve aviation safety. These recommendations are designed to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The investigation faced some delays due to pending documents, such as autopsy reports. "There were a few things that we needed and that were really delayed," Mr. Wumborti noted. Despite these challenges, the Bureau proceeded with the release. The microlight aircraft, registration 9G-ADV, was travelling from Ho to Accra when it crashed near a school park in Tema Community One. The two occupants onboard, who were brothers, tragically perished in the event. Emergency teams responded quickly to the scene.
