Three civilians died and one was injured in an ambush on a military-escorted convoy on Monday, April 27, 2026. The attack happened along the Bawku–Bolgatanga corridor near Binduri. Unknown gunmen opened fire on the convoy, which was transporting approximately 140 civilians from Bawku to Bolgatanga.
Mumuni Muhammed Nurideen, the Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, strongly condemned the violent incident. He called it a tragic reminder of the constant insecurity in the Bawku area. The MP expressed deep concern over the loss of life. He stressed that this senseless violence must end immediately. He also extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
The Ghana Armed Forces confirmed the attack. Military personnel responded to the ambush. They killed seven of the attackers. Ten suspects were later arrested. These individuals are assisting with investigations. The recurring attacks along this critical corridor raise significant worries about civilian safety. This is despite an increased military presence in the region.
Mr. Nurideen highlighted that such recurring attacks do not only threaten lives. They also harm economic activity and social unity in the region. He called for stronger cooperation between security agencies and local communities. This collaboration is vital for improving intelligence gathering at the community level. He also stressed the need to swiftly bring those responsible to justice. The MP urged residents to cooperate fully with security forces. He cautioned against actions that could disrupt ongoing operations.
The Member of Parliament appealed to the government. He asked for intensified long-term interventions. These efforts should aim to address the root causes of the conflict. This is particularly important in the Bawku enclave. The Binduri incident marks another escalation in tensions in the area. It renews concerns about the safety of people travelling through the region. The economic implications of such insecurity are substantial. They can deter investment and disrupt trade routes.
