GIPA Seeks Investors for 128 Northern Ghana Projects

The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) has initiated a strategic roadshow across Northern Ghana to actively mobilize capital for 128 identified investment-ready projects. This marks a shift from merely attracting investment to proactively connecting investors with specific opportunities, aiming to unlock the economic potential of the Northern, North East, Upper East, Upper West, and Savannah regions.

This 13-day engagement follows GIPA's flagship Investment Opportunities Mapping Project (IOMP), launched in July 2025. The IOMP has identified more than 600 investment-ready projects nationwide. The roadshow specifically targets the 128 projects originating from Northern Ghana, highlighting the region's growing importance in the national investment landscape.

This initiative aligns with Ghana's broader economic development goals, which emphasize decentralized growth and leveraging regional strengths. Historically, investment has often concentrated in southern Ghana, but this GIPA strategy aims to rebalance economic activity. The focus on agriculture, agro-processing, and manufacturing in the north can boost local economies and create jobs, addressing regional disparities in development.

Mr. Simon Madjie, GIPA's Chief Executive Officer, stated, "Northern Ghana is no longer a frontier of potential. It is a destination of opportunity." He emphasized that the roadshow directly brings investment opportunities to the market, building partnerships and creating pathways for regional transformation. Mr. Abdul Razak Baba, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GIPA, will lead the roadshow, engaging regional ministers, business leaders, and traditional authorities.

The roadshow's success could significantly impact regional development, attracting crucial capital for projects spanning agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, and renewable energy. Decision-makers and local communities will closely watch the outcomes, particularly the number of successful investment commitments. This proactive approach by GIPA signals a concerted effort to translate identified potential into tangible economic growth across Ghana's northern belt.

The Upper West Region leads with 45 project profiles, followed by the Northern Region with 38 projects. Savannah has 19, Upper East 16, and the North East Region 10. These opportunities cover diverse sectors including logistics and trade, indicating a broad scope for investment. GIPA data from 1994 to June 2026 shows the Northern regions attracted 100 registered investment projects. These projects had an estimated foreign direct investment (FDI) value of US$1.91 billion, primarily in agriculture and manufacturing. The Northern Region alone accounted for 68 of these projects, demonstrating its historical capacity to attract significant capital. This new roadshow seeks to build on this foundation and further accelerate investment inflows.

The upcoming Invest Ghana Summit, scheduled for November 16 and 17, 2026, will also feature these regional opportunities. This summit provides a platform for both domestic and international investors to explore the identified projects. GIPA's strategy aims to ensure that all regions of Ghana contribute meaningfully to the national investment portfolio. This integrated approach seeks to maximize Ghana's overall economic potential by diversifying investment locations and sectors.
