A fierce rainstorm has destroyed four homes in Ketsi and Koensim towns. The storm struck the Jasikan Municipality in the Oti Region on May 17. Strong winds ripped off the roofs of buildings. This left many residents homeless and their property ruined.

The heavy rainfall lasted for hours. It swept across parts of the municipality. Mr Kennedy Akoto, the Assemblyman for Nsuta East, stated that two houses suffered severe damage. These two communities are home to the affected families. Residents lost essential personal items. These included bedding, clothing, and food. Household appliances were also destroyed. The total value of lost items is in the thousands of Ghana cedis. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the storm.

This incident highlights the vulnerability of communities to extreme weather events. Ghana's meteorological agency regularly warns about the rainy season. This season often brings strong winds and storms. Such events can cause significant damage to infrastructure. They disrupt lives and economies, especially in rural areas. The Oti Region, like many others, faces challenges with weather-related disasters. Proper infrastructure and preparedness are crucial.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have visited the affected areas. Mr Eric Adom, the Jasikan Municipal Director of NADMO, led the assessment team. They are evaluating the full extent of the damage. NADMO has promised to provide essential relief items. These will include roofing sheets and mattresses. The goal is to help families rebuild their homes. Residents are currently staying with friends and family members for now.

The affected families are asking for urgent help. They are appealing to the government and kind individuals. They need support to rebuild their homes. They also seek to restore some normalcy to their lives. The Assemblyman stressed the need for disaster preparedness. He asked residents to maintain their roofs regularly. He also advised against building weak structures. These can easily succumb to strong winds. The prompt delivery of aid by NADMO and other bodies is vital. This will help reduce the hardship faced by these families.
