The CA Foundation, alongside Justice Akosua Christopher, has delivered constitutional education to around 100 individuals at the Accra Senior Correctional Centre. This initiative took place on May 9 at the centre in Roman Ridge. The event aimed to teach them about Ghana’s Constitution and their civic duties.
This civic education session was a partnership. It involved Alicia Global, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), and the National Alliance of Ghana Law Students. The goal was to promote good citizenship and awareness of rights. Participants learned about their responsibilities under the Constitution of 1992. This includes understanding fundamental human rights.
Ghana is committed to strengthening its democratic foundations. This involves ensuring all citizens understand their rights and duties. The Constitution, 1992, is the supreme law of the land. Initiatives like this help fulfill the constitutional mandate of the NCCE. That mandate is to educate citizens across the nation. Such programs are vital for public engagement and legal awareness.
Her Ladyship Justice Akosua Christopher spoke about human rights. She explained that inmates retain constitutional rights. These rights must be respected and protected. She called education a tool for growth and reintegration. Celestine Addo, Executive Director of the CA Foundation, explained the Constitution's origins and importance. She stressed that constitutional literacy should be accessible to everyone in Ghana.
Mawuli Agbenu, NCCE's Greater Accra Regional Director, praised the CA Foundation. He noted their effort to bring education beyond classrooms. He highlighted the NCCE's role in deepening democratic participation. This collaboration shows a shared goal for a responsible society. The event included interactive sessions and exhibitions.
The CA Foundation also received support from sponsors. These included iCann Technologies Incorporated and Leeway Construction. Volunteers from the Ghana School of Law also contributed. The Foundation donated items to the inmates. The Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Yussif Adam, provided streetlights. Private donors also supported the event.
