The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) marked the International Day of Families on May 15, 2026, by calling for stronger support systems. The ministry wants to address inequalities that hurt children and vulnerable families.
This year’s theme was “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing.” The ministry pointed out that families are the backbone of society. However, many families struggle with problems like poverty, joblessness, and violence at home. These issues make it hard for parents to give children the safety and care they need.
These problems affect national development and social unity. Strong families are vital. The ministry stated that every child in Ghana deserves a safe and supportive environment. This is true no matter how rich or poor their family is. Government policies aim to help families and improve children's lives.
MoGCSP mentioned programs like the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty Programme (LEAP) and the School Feeding Programme. They also highlighted efforts to fight gender-based violence and promote disability inclusion. These steps are meant to create more equal opportunities for all children. The ministry also stressed the importance of policy frameworks like the Child and Family Welfare Policy.
Minister Agnes Naa Momo Lartey’s ministry is working on new policies. These include the National Parenting Strategy and the Early Childhood Care and Development Policy. These policies support positive parenting and social inclusion. The government also wants to expand digital and social welfare services.
The ministry urged everyone to work together. Parents, community leaders, and organizations must build stronger families. They must create safer places for children to grow. The goal is a society where no one is left behind. This requires collective effort to support families and protect children.
