The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has established a new internal structure. Elected party officers will now be accountable to powerful committees. These committees report directly to the National Council, the party's highest decision-making body.

Nana Akomea, Chairman of the NPP's Communications Committee, explained the change. This restructuring is part of a strategy for the 2028 elections. The party decided to elect its flagbearer three years before the polls. This early election aims to reduce internal tensions. It also allows more time for campaign organization.

The NPP lost the 2024 general elections. Party leaders believe more time is needed for proper organization. The decision for early flagbearer elections faced some internal criticism. Akomea noted similar sentiments arose when the party first considered this approach. He stated that the prevailing view was to get the process done early.

Akomea revealed two main types of committees were formed. Standing committees will offer advice to the National Council. They will also oversee the work of elected party officials. His own communications committee is an example of a standing committee. Even future elected officers like a Communications Director will work under these committees. They will answer to their respective committees.

This new framework ensures elected individuals are not independent. They will answer through their committees to the National Council. For instance, the National Council will not contact a communications director directly. Instead, they will communicate with the chairman of the relevant committee. This streamlined approach centralizes authority and ensures accountability within the party structure.

The party leadership believes this system will create better field managers. These managers will ensure campaign efforts are aligned with party strategy. The committees are seen as vital structures guiding the party's work. This change marks a shift from previous ad hoc political management. It aims for a more coordinated and disciplined approach to party operations and election campaigns.
