Telecommunications company MTN Ghana recently held a business development forum for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Koforidua. The event, named the “SME Business Clinic,” brought together about 150 business operators. It focused on improving their skills in areas like financial management, bookkeeping, packaging, and labeling. A key objective was to encourage the adoption of new digital business technologies.

Mohammed Abubakari-Sidik, Head of SME Sales at MTN Ghana, stated that continuous training and exposure are vital for SMEs. He highlighted that these businesses are essential to Ghana’s economy. However, many still struggle with business management and technology use. MTN Ghana aims to bridge this gap through structured capacity-building programs and digital solutions. These offerings are designed to boost productivity and foster growth for small businesses.

This initiative in the Eastern Region is part of a larger plan by MTN Ghana. The company intends to roll out similar clinics across six regions this year. The Koforidua session marked the third such event conducted so far. This effort aligns with the government's broader agenda to promote entrepreneurship and digital transformation. Such programs are crucial for enhancing Ghana’s economic competitiveness in the global market.

MTN Ghana also showcased its business support tools. These include Yellow Business Solutions. This service offers SMEs internet connectivity, website development, and professional email systems. These tools aim to increase business visibility and credibility. They help businesses build stronger online identities and connect better with customers. Tailored services for women entrepreneurs were also highlighted. These offer affordable connectivity, financial protection, and insurance benefits.

Participants reported that the training was effective. They found both practical and theoretical sessions valuable. The clinic deepened their understanding of business operations. They expect to apply better strategies for future growth. MTN Ghana reiterated its commitment to empowering SMEs. This support contributes to promoting entrepreneurship and the digital economy nationwide.
