The Food and Beverages sector recorded the highest growth of 431.9% on the Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) in the first eight months of 2026. Finance (131.7%) and Agriculture (123.2%) followed, ranking 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
Manufacturing (120.3%) and Information and Communication Technologies (80.5%) placed 4th and 5th, respectively.
Led by indigenous firm Kasapreko, the Food and Beverages sector has been outstanding this year, culminating in the impressive performance of the exchange in Africa. The strong performance of financial stocks reflected improved profitability, stronger balance sheet positions, and sustained investor confidence in the banking and financial services sector.
According to the Bank of Ghana, activity on the GSE remained buoyant in August 2026, supported by strong investor confidence, improved corporate earnings, easing inflation and continued macroeconomic stability. Market capitalization stood at GHS 285.58 billion at the end of August 2026, representing a significant increase from GHS 149.59 billion recorded in August 2025.
The expansion in market capitalisation was broad-based across sectors, driven primarily by substantial appreciation of listed share prices across both financial and non-financial sectors. The GSE year-to-date reached 69.49% on 27th October 2026. Total turnover decreased by 14.54% day-to-day to GHS 2.00 million after trading 798,643 shares across 27 counters.
MTN Ghana and Kasapreko traded the most and accounted for 59.13% of the market turnover. The Central Bank attributed the sharp rise in market capitalisation to strong investor confidence and increased demand for equities, strong performance of financial-sector stocks, lower interest rates and portfolio reallocation, improved corporate performance, and broader macroeconomic improvements during the year.
