MTN Ghana Mobile Money transaction value grows 44.4%

    1 min read2 min listen

MTN Ghana's Mobile Money transaction value grew by 44.4% year-on-year in the first half of 2026. The platform's active users increased by 3.1% during the period.

Transaction volumes and MoMo revenue each recorded growth of 23.3%.

The growth reflects the platform's expanding role in digital financial transactions across Ghana. David Gyimah Boadi, General Manager for Southern Ghana, made the disclosure during a Regional Media and Stakeholder Engagement Programme in Ho. He said the MoMo platform had evolved beyond a payment service and was now serving as a gateway to financial inclusion and economic opportunities.

MTN Ghana remains committed to investing in customer education and strengthening security measures to protect users. The company will continue to promote digital and financial inclusion, support small and medium-sized enterprises, and equip young people with the skills needed to participate effectively in the digital economy.

The event brought together stakeholders from state institutions and media organisations to discuss MTN Ghana's operations, investments, and contributions to national development.

The growth of MTN Ghana's Mobile Money transaction value is part of a broader trend of increasing digital financial transactions in Ghana. The Bank of Ghana has reported an increase in mobile money transactions in recent years. This growth is expected to continue as more Ghanaians adopt digital financial services.

According to Mr Boadi, cybersecurity is a shared responsibility that requires vigilance and cooperation from both service providers and customers. He urged customers to safeguard their personal information, including personal identification numbers and passwords, to minimise their exposure to fraud and cybercrime.
