Gold Fields Ghana has spent $4.26 billion with local suppliers over the past five years, about 93% of its total procurement, the gold miner said.
Of that, $2.59 billion went to businesses in the communities around its mines. The company says it has worked with nearly 100 host-community suppliers.
Between January and June 2026, its in-country procurement reached GHS4.7 billion. Of this, GHS4.2 billion went to 124 host-community suppliers. The company also put more than GHS53 million into community projects through the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation this year.
The figures were given by Mining Manager Kwame Appau at the third Gold Fields Ghana Suppliers Conference in Tarkwa, Western Region, which drew more than 300 local and international suppliers.
Emmanuel Kwamena Anyimah, a Deputy CEO of the Minerals Commission, said a bill before Parliament would strengthen local content rules. It would set up district mining committees as the first point of licensing and create a medium-scale category for Ghanaian entrepreneurs.
