The Ghana Cocoa Board has procured more than 3.5 million bags of granular fertiliser for free distribution to cocoa farmers, with about 1.2 million bags already delivered, Adom Online reported on 6 November 2026, quoting COCOBOD chief executive Dr Randy Abbey.
The report said the Free Fertilizer and Agro-Input Programme has shifted from a 50% subsidy to free distribution. COCOBOD is pairing the relaunch with a digital Cocoa Management System that registers farms, verifies farmers with national ID or biometrics, and calculates entitlements from marked farm size to limit diversion and “ghost” beneficiaries.
According to the same account, the board has also purchased 1.8 million litres of liquid fertiliser, 2.3 million litres of insecticide and 1.5 million kilograms of fungicide, and has supplied about 27,000 new spray machines in a single year, taking the stock of sprayers to about 67,000, with about 5.7 million litres of pre-mixed fuel for mechanical application.
The relaunch event was held at Sefwi Wiawso. Board chairman Dr Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo said higher national output required investment in soil fertility, pest and disease control, planting material and extension. Abbey said inputs under earlier free schemes had been diverted to open markets and favoured farms.
This article is based on Adom Online’s report of COCOBOD remarks. StatsGH had not independently obtained a COCOBOD release listing the bag and litre totals at publication; the programme figures are attributed to that account.
