Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has set aside GH¢30 million to pay to the government, its sole shareholder.

Managing Director Yvonne Afriyie Opare announced the payment at the company's 11th Annual General Meeting, where she presented the report for 2025. She described it as the first payment to the shareholder since GACL was set up in 2007, NorvanReports said.

An Auditor-General review of 2013 to 2017 recorded a GH¢20,000 transfer from the company's 2016 profit to the Consolidated Fund, so the GH¢30 million is more precisely its first formally declared dividend.

Traffic grew in 2025. Passenger numbers rose about 6% to 3.6 million from 3.4 million, aircraft movements rose 2.2% to 47,270 and cargo grew 4.8% to 44,826 tonnes.

The profit picture is less clear. At the meeting, 2025 profit was given as GH¢354.6 million, up from about GH¢336 million.

The 2025 State Ownership Report by the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA) instead puts net profit at GH¢355.94 million, down 30.64% from GH¢513.17 million in 2024, with operating revenue down 9.15% to GH¢1.83 billion. The difference has not been explained.

SIGA's figures also show GACL had GH¢6.95 billion in total liabilities and GH¢492.16 million in finance costs. Its current ratio improved to 0.73 from 0.57 but stayed below 1, meaning short-term assets did not cover short-term debts, and operating cash flow fell to GH¢715.79 million from GH¢2.26 billion.

Ms Opare said domestic operations and all the regional airports, which include Kumasi, Tamale, Sunyani and Ho, are not yet profitable. GACL has won approval to refinance its syndicated loan, adding 8 years to the repayment period and a 1-year break on principal repayments.
