Reported cyber incidents cost Ghana more than GHS209.7 million from January to September 2026. That is over nine times the more than GHS22.5 million in losses logged for the whole of 2025.
The Cyber Security Authority (CSA) recorded 4,938 incidents in the nine months. That already exceeds the 4,604 cases it logged across all of 2025.
Director-General Divine Selase Agbeti set out the figures in Tamale during the Northern Regional cybersecurity awareness campaign, part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month. He said the Authority would open a zonal office in Tamale to handle awareness, incident reporting and response for the northern regions.
Online fraud remained the largest category, at 48% of incidents reported from January to September, against 47% in 2025. Online blackmail rose to 20% of cases from 17%, and cyberbullying more than doubled its share, from 9% to 19%.
Agbeti said human error and social engineering, where people are manipulated into handing over money or information, sat behind 60% to 95% of incidents. The Authority has not published a breakdown of the GHS209.7 million by incident type, and officials say the published totals understate the problem because some victims do not report.
